Done well, it is still one of the most useful tools a company has — part strategy retreat, part team building, part rest.

Belvoir’s manors were built for exactly that kind of gathering. Manoir Maplewood in the Eastern Townships and Manoir Davis in the Laurentians sit far enough from Montréal to feel like a departure, and close enough that the trip itself does not eat the agenda. Set in Waterloo, Manoir Maplewood is the more urbane of the two houses: elegant salons, a property that reads as a private estate, and meeting rooms already wired for screens, projection, and sound. It is the manor you choose when the work of the offsite is genuinely strategic — board-level, or a leadership team that needs the room to feel considered.

The house sleeps up to 58 guests, so a full department can stay on site. After the working blocks, the outdoor pool, jacuzzi, and dry sauna take the temperature down. Nearby, Balnea and Spa Nordic Station are an easy afternoon if the brief includes a real reset, not just a change of scenery.

Days can be split between a closed working room and the grounds. Evenings belong to the table. Maplewood is at its best when the offsite is allowed to feel like a house party that happens to have an agenda.

Manoir Davis: a Laurentian house for a tighter circle

North of Montréal, above Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, Manoir Davis is the quieter sibling. The house holds 24 people — enough for a leadership team, a board, or a working group that should not be diluted. The rooms are residential rather than hotel-like; the outdoor jacuzzi looks into the trees.

Meeting rooms here are modular and already equipped. What you come for, though, is the scale: everyone fits in one conversation. The grounds, the P’tit Train du Nord, Mont-Tremblant, and Belle Neige sit close enough that a half-day on the mountain or the trail can be the whole team-building plan, not an extra line item.

Build the days around more than the boardroom

A lac-à-l’épaule that never leaves the table is just a long meeting with better coffee. The hours between sessions are where the offsite earns its keep — the walk, the shared meal, the slightly competitive paddle.

At Maplewood, that might be golf, paddleboard, or kayak. At Davis, a group ride on the P’tit Train du Nord, a day on Tremblant, or a winter morning at Belle Neige. None of it needs to be elaborate. It needs to put people next to each other without a slide deck in the way.
